Der Papiertiger ist eine Enzyklopädie des Sadomasochismus, zusammengestellt von Datenschlag. Hier erklären wir Begriffe aus dem SM-Bereich und stellen sie in den Zusammenhang der sadomasochistischen Subkultur und ihrer Traditionen.
Geplantes Grossprojekt des amerikanischen Leather Literary Project, wurde im Juni 2000 angekündigt und später unter der Domain leatherencyclopedia.org begonnen. Eine erste Version war für 2005 geplant.
Die LE sollte ähnlich dem Deviants' Dictionary und dem Papiertiger möglichst alles Wissen über den Sadomasochismus an einer Stelle sammeln - und das über die weltweite Subkultur.
Die Zielsetzung war (aus der Presseerklärung):
The Leather Encyclopedia will be the first of its kind; an alphabetical reference chronicling the history, achievements and advancements of the leather/BDSM/fetish community along with biographies of pioneers, leaders and significant contributors over the years. Its purpose is to collect and preserve the various leather communities' great past and present wealth of history, bringing together the energy and invaluable experiences of all aspects of the leather community, including but not limited to, (in alphabetical order) our bisexual, gay, heterosexual, lesbian and transgender/transsexual members. The tome will also include photographs, illustrations, lists and charts, along with an extensive appendix, bibliography and index with detailed credits for each of the organizations, groups, and the individuals who contribute items, labor or support.
Ziemlich bald wurde unter der Domain leatherencyclopedia.org eine erste Website veröffentlicht, deren Startseite die Mission folgendermassen erklärte:
Can you imagine? What would it have been like if there had been an encyclopedia when you came out? You could have looked up any topic. You could have looked up any book on any specific subject. You could have had immediate information at your finger tips. You could have known, for fact, you were not alone.
You could have found the group(s) in your area. You could have discovered contests, events and people. You could have explored the world of BDSM without months of research, months of wondering what "those people" are really doing.
The Leather Encyclopedia could have tremendous and long reaching ramifications. We hope you will be as excited as we are about LLP. It's an amazing project and we want your voice, your talent and the unique contributions only you may give as an individual. Be our creators and make a difference for years to come!

Vision and Mission Statement
- To design and build a comprehensive Leather Encyclopedia.
- To establish and maintain procedural precedents for its financial, informational and volunteer responsibilities.
- To use the Business Plan and Executive Summary in ways that will serve to expedite, authenticate and help engage others in supporting this worthy project.
- To build a platform on which sanity, safety and consensuality can exist while helping to end abuse and discrimination of sexual diversity in human adults.
Das LE-Projekt kam nach einem ambitionierten Start sehr schnell ins Stocken, es wurden nie Inhalte veröffentlicht. Bereits im Juni 2001 musste das Projekt Unregelmässigkeiten bei der Spendenbeschaffung eingestehen, der Server wurde im August 2001 abgeschaltet und die Restgelder des Leather Literary Projects an das Leather Archives and Museum gespendet.
